It occurs to me that Twitter is an ideal medium for the kinds of initial contacts you make at a conference like Mobile Tech for Social Change.
A year ago a similar event would have led to a number of Facebook 'friend' requests - for people I had met for only five minutes. They may turn out to be wonderful connections, but I've only just met them and I don't want to be reminded about which Star Wars character they most resemble, or have them see those embarrassing karaoke videos from 2007.
Twitter following is much less of a commitment, allowing a lower key (or even one-way) connection while you both figure each other out.
