The server that houses Shindig experienced some hardware problems a while ago and had to go off-line. We took this unexpected downtime as an opportunity to do a few things:
- Update the site layout and design to be cleaner and less chunky. I'm still not 100% happy with it yet, but it's definitely progress. The nice thing about web sites is that you don't have to lock anything down or print out thousands of permanent copies. Expect adjustments or even complete changes over the next while.
- We also move from dedicated hardware to a virtual machine. This means that if a hardware problem crops up again, the entire server can be moved easily to another box without any downtime. Also, if the server gets busy and requires more RAM or processing power, the good people at WeeHost Inc. can just change a few settings and instantly give it more to work with.
- I also added a one-page overview of the Store Ordering System and a personal bio with recent projects and work experience.
Let me know what you think about the new look.
Expect more blog posts soon - I'm headed to RubyFringe this weekend and hope to have some time to blog things in between the mind-blowing sessions and the excellent parties.
